BJP to rule Godhra with 7 independent Muslim corporators’ support
Godhra, 28 October, 2010
Bharatiya Janata Party has come to power in Gujarat’s Godhra Municipality with the support of as many as seven independent Muslim candidates, who are elected from Muslim areas of Godhra.
Godhra Municipality has total 42 seats. To get power, any political party needs 22 seats. However main party BJP could secure only 18 seats, while the other major party Congress secured 4 seats. The key of power was therefore in the hands of independent candidates who were victorious on 20 seats.
There could be an equation of Congress+independents, as most of the independents are Muslims, and it is traditionally believed that Muslims would support Congress .
However the Muslims decided to support BJP. While the party was in need of support of only four members, there are now seven Muslim corporators in its support.
Maheboob Majid Patel, Majid Rahim Bakkar, Sofia Anwar Jamal(9), Usmangani Abdullah Dulli, Mohammad Akram Rahim Patel, Moiz Ismaliji Bodeliwala, and Mohammad Saidkhan Ganikhan Pathan, are the winning independent candidates who are supporting BJP without any condition for next five years.
According to minority morcha President of Panchamahal District Shri Ramzanibhai Jujera(Advocate), the Muslims have supported BJP for peace, development, more job opportunities, and betterment of the town.
