April 17, 2026
Ahmedabad: With the city set to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 four years from now, preparations for developing key sports infrastructure have gathered pace, including ongoing land acquisition and the drafting of masterplans.
According to a TOI report, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) town development department has recently received consultant-submitted plans for an Aquatic Arena-cum-Aquatic Centre, proposed within the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, for approval. Tenders for construction will be floated once the plans are cleared.
The report states that land acquisition is progressing, while submitted construction plans are under review by the AMC. However, although acquisitions are nearing completion, certain land parcels around the Narendra Modi Stadium remain under litigation. These parcels are linked to entities such as Bhartiya Seva Samaj, Sadashiv Pragya Mandal, and Sant Shri Asaram Ashram.
Notably, a comprehensive masterplan for the sports enclave, spanning around 650 acres in Motera, has been prepared. The Rs 5,050 crore project has been divided into two phases. Package I, estimated at Rs 2,250 crore, includes the aquatics centre among other facilities, while Package II, costing Rs 2,800 crore, will feature an indoor arena, a tennis centre, the National Institute of Sports Excellence, and athlete housing.
