Gujarat HC Issues Notice to Kirtidan Gadhvi, Cops Over ‘Illegal Detention’ of Ahmedabad Man

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has issued notices to noted Gujarati folk singer Kirtidan Gadhvi and several police officials in connection with an alleged assault and illegal detention case filed by an Ahmedabad-based event organiser.

The notices were issued while hearing a petition filed by Jayesh Parmar, a resident of Khodiyarnagar, who alleged that he was illegally detained and assaulted by officials of the CID Crime Cyber Cell. The court has also directed authorities to preserve CCTV footage of the police station for February 20 and 21, 2025.

According to the petition, Parmar was picked up by Cyber Cell officials in plain clothes from Gandhinagar on February 20 and was detained from 10 am to 2 am the following day without any summons, warrant, or legal notice. He alleged that he was physically assaulted during custody, resulting in injuries, and submitted medical evidence before the court.

The petitioner has accused Gadhvi of being the “main mastermind” behind the incident, claiming that police officials acted at his behest. He has sought departmental action against the officers involved, including PI B.M. Chaudhary, PSI Parmar, and SP Rajdeepsinh Jhala of the CID Crime Cyber Cell.

Parmar stated that the dispute stemmed from a financial disagreement related to the organisation of a Navratri 2025 event, which he had jointly managed with Gadhvi under a partnership arrangement. He claimed the issue was of a commercial nature and could have been resolved through arbitration.

Meanwhile, Parmar, along with Sanjay Desai and Ravikumar Shah, had filed anticipatory bail applications in a Gandhinagar court in connection with a complaint registered with CID Crime, Gandhinagar. The complaint alleges that the applicants misused an online platform to sell approximately 65,000 complimentary tickets as paid tickets, thereby cheating and gaining financial benefits of ₹8 to ₹10 crore.

In that case, a Gandhinagar court granted conditional anticipatory bail to the accused, noting that no notice had been issued to them despite a considerable lapse of time since the FIR was registered.

The High Court is currently examining the allegations of illegal detention, assault, and possible misuse of police authority. DeshGujarat
