Woman dies due to Congo fever in Bhuj

A 45 year old woman today died due to deadly Congo fever in a private hospital in Bhuj, the headquarter town of Kutch district of Gujarat.

It is third such death in the district since January this year.

Epidemic Officer of the district health department Arun Kurmi said that the blood sample of the deceased women, who originally hailed from the Rampar Vekara village of Mandavi taluka of the district, was tested positive for Congo fever by the National Institute of Virology, Pune.

‘The woman was first admitted to government run health center in Mandavi on July 6 and was shifted to a private hospital in Bhuj on July 12. She showed symptoms of Congo fever including body ache and high fever. She died this evening a few hours after her test report from NIV arrived,’ Kurmi said adding one such death each in Nakhtrana and Mundra taluka were also reported earlier taking the Congo fever related toll to 3 in the district since January this year.

The Health department was taking all precautionary measures to check any possible outbreak of the disease. All the seven family members of the deceased woman have been thoroughly checked up.
