Garba at Burj Khalifa: Congress Spokesperson posts Video, Triggers Debate
June 19, 2025
Dubai: A group of Indian tourists clad in bright yellow T-shirts has stirred online debate after breaking into a lively Garba dance on the 124th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. Their spirited performance, set to the beats of the Bollywood hit Chogada, brought a dash of Navratri to Dubai’s iconic skyline.
The viral video captures the tourists dancing in a classic circular Garba formation on the Burj’s observation deck. However, the video has now sparked division online — with some viewers celebrating it as a bold showcase of Indian culture, while others criticized it as disruptive and lacking civic sense.
Amid the debate, Congress spokesperson Lavanya Ballal Jain also shared the video on her X (formerly Twitter) account and said, “Why? Was this a life goal to dance at Burj Khalifa? Imagine if it were a Muslim family who started praying in a famous place? PS -you don’t need to imagine, just wait for the trolls response to the tweet.”

Supporting the Congress spokesperson’s tweet, one user commented, “Why always Gujaratis? Earlier some actor was eating on the newspaper sitting on the floor in Airport. Cringe!!”
Another user said “Some Indians are obsessed with showing culture everywhere in the world. No matter if it cause inconvenience in the public place.”

Meanwhile, a plethora of Tweeples were quick to rebut and support the tourists, with one saying, “I am a resident of Dubai, I live there, don’t make opinions on seeing these tweets, I don’t see a problem with this, They’re just enjoying themselves (As long as other people actually were not disturbed) If it were them eating something on the floor or throwing trash, I would have supported, but here you’re just demeaning your culture and heritage.”

Another said, “Okay. Burj Khalifa is in Dubai, UAE, an Islamic country. Even Burj Khalifa doesn’t have any objections on these people doing Garba, but this desi Khalifa has. Why hate Gujaratis so much?”
Another user posed questions to the congress leader saying “Please answer 3 simple questions: 1. Since when is Garba a religious thing? As far as I know, its a Gujarati dance and has nothing to do with religion, right? 2. A Muslim man was seen offering namaz in Tirumala temple just last month. Did you condemn it? 3. Why is Congress always anti-Hindu?”

Several users pointed out that when the authorities at the Burj had no objection, why does the Congress leader have a problem? “When the authorities in Dubai did not object to it… Why are u getting so much frustrated? When Modi hate did not work, Shah hate did not work, so now you have fallen down to the stinking act of critizing the entire community? Shame on You” a user id said.
Another user said “Oh please, not everything is about Hindu Muslim. It’s not like they’re dancing on bhajans. It’s just a Gujarati song Muslims also live in Gujrat. Dumbfvck”
If we go by past incidents, this debate isn’t new. From couples recreating DDLJ moments in Swiss snow to spontaneous Bhangra sessions in Times Square and wedding shoots in Singapore’s public spaces, Indian tourists often bring their vibrant culture wherever they go. However, the incident now has surely triggered a broader debate around tourist conduct and cultural awareness. DeshGujarat
