RMC Curbs Afternoon Work for Labourers Amid Heatwave

Rajkot: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) health department has been placed on high alert following a forecast of a four-day heatwave expected to impact the city. Temperatures are likely to reach 42–43°C, with the “feels like” temperature estimated to be 1–2 degrees higher, said RMC Medical Officer Dr. Jayesh Vakani.

In a key step to protect workers, the RMC has directed that labourers should not be made to work between 1 pm and 4 pm. To assist commuters, BRTS bus stations are being equipped with coolers and ORS (oral rehydration solution) water facilities. LED screens at these stations will also display information on heatwave precautions and safety measures.

Medical experts have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during peak heat hours, particularly between 12 pm and 4 pm. High-risk groups, including pregnant and lactating women, senior citizens, and young children, have been urged to take extra precautions.

Authorities have recommended maintaining hydration by consuming lemon water, plain water, and natural juices before stepping out. Citizens are also advised to drink around 200 ml of water every hour to maintain electrolyte balance and prevent heat-related illnesses.

The administration said it is closely monitoring the situation as the city prepares for extreme temperatures. DeshGujarat
