Ahmedabad: A 52-year-old man was beaten to death by a group of assailants near Jivraj Bridge in the Anandnagar area on May 2, allegedly over a family dispute. The victim, identified as Natubhai Parmar, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a private hospital.
According to police, the attack took place around 8:30 pm when four to five accused assaulted Parmar with iron pipes and wooden sticks near Bapasitaram Mobile Shop under Jivraj Bridge. He sustained severe head and body injuries and was rushed to a hospital in a rickshaw, where he later died.
Police said the assault is suspected to be linked to a family dispute involving Parmar’s daughter-in-law. His son, Kaushik Parmar, who resides in Satellite, filed a complaint at Anandnagar police station. In his statement, Kaushik said he was informed about the attack by a friend and rushed to the spot before taking his father to the hospital.
CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, showing the victim being repeatedly attacked within seconds using pipes and a hammer.
Following the incident, tension gripped the area as around 300 to 400 locals gathered in support of the victim’s family. Protesters blocked the road connecting Rajivnagar to Jivraj and raised slogans against illegal activities such as alcohol and gambling in the locality. Some family members also attempted to vandalise the accused’s house but were stopped by police.
A large police force was deployed to control the situation, and senior officials, including ACP S.M. Patel, reached the spot.
Family members alleged that they had faced threats and previous attacks from the accused. The victim’s daughter claimed that a group had earlier attacked their house and that no adequate police action was taken at the time. The family has demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and police protection.
Police have identified the main accused as Kanu alias Kanti alias Leli, Hasmukh, and Ketan Dhulaji, along with others, and have formed multiple teams to apprehend them. Officials said further investigation is underway.
