Bullet Train Project: 130-Metre Steel Bridge Span Launched Over DFCC Rail Tracks in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) today announced that it has completed the launching of a 130-metre span of a 330-metre-long steel bridge (100+130+100 m) over Indian Railways tracks near Tralsi village in Bharuch under the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project. The bridge crosses DFCC tracks on the Surat–Vadodara section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.

This steel bridge is a three-span structure comprising a 100+130 m continuous span and a 100 m simply supported span. Of these, the 130 m span was launched on May 16, 2026. Measuring approximately 18 metres in height and 15.5 metres in width, this span weighs around 2,900 metric tonnes.

The 100 m simply supported span, weighing 1,500 metric tonnes, had already been erected in situ (at the construction site) in March 2026. The remaining 100 m continuous span, weighing around 1,600 metric tonnes, will also be erected in situ.

Upon completion, the entire bridge structure — comprising a 100+130 m continuous span and a 100 m simply supported span — will have a total weight of around 6,100 metric tonnes. Fabricated at the Karbon Factory workshop in Umbergaon, Gujarat, the steel bridges are designed for a lifespan of 100 years.

This 130 m span has been constructed using approximately 121,373 Tor-Shear Type High Strength (TTHS) bolts, C5 system painting and metallic bearings. It was assembled on temporary trestles at a height of 14 metres above the ground and moved using an automatic mechanism with two semi-automatic jacks, each capable of exerting a pushing force of 250 tonnes with Mac-Alloy bars.

The launching was completed under carefully coordinated traffic arrangements on the freight tracks. These arrangements ensured safety and precision during the bridge launch while minimizing disruption to freight movement through phased execution.

Out of the planned 17 steel bridges in Gujarat, 14 have been completed. A total of 28 steel bridges are planned for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor. DeshGujarat
