AMC Launches Drive at 79 Traffic Hotspots to Curb AMTS-BRTS Bus Delays
May 21, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a special citywide campaign to improve the punctuality and efficiency of AMTS and BRTS services, which cater to nearly seven lakh passengers daily. The initiative comes as the city plans to expand its public transport fleet by adding 3,000 more AC buses over the next two years.
Currently, around 1,250 buses operate under AMTS and BRTS, with nearly 75% running on schedule. However, repeated complaints of delays on certain routes prompted AMC to conduct a detailed survey across the city.
The survey identified 79 traffic-sensitive locations across all seven city zones where issues such as traffic congestion, illegal parking, wrong-side driving, and poor traffic discipline were slowing bus movement and disrupting schedules. Peak-hour congestion at these hotspots was found to significantly affect route timings and passenger convenience.
Following the findings, AMC has launched a joint operation involving the Estate Department, Traffic Department, and other concerned agencies to ease congestion at these identified locations. Measures, including action against illegal parking, improving traffic management, and developing parking facilities, have been initiated.
Officials said the move is expected to improve bus punctuality and provide passengers with a more reliable public transport experience, while future plans will also focus on route optimization and the expansion of electric bus services. DeshGujarat
