Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has finally removed ‘Egg Powder Plant’ project from the list of project profiles of its Agro and Food Processing department for the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2017 slated to be held from January 10 to 13 at Mahatma Mandir here.

The Egg Powder Plant project profile has also been removed from the official website of the eighth edition of the biennial investors summit.

People and religious leaders from Jain and Hindu community and some animal care outfits had opposed the project profile and requested Chief Minister Vijay Rupani to intervene in the matter for its removal from the list so that MoU’s for such plants won’t take place during the summit.

They had objected to the profile terming it as an initiative in the direction of setting up such plants in Gujarat, which is otherwise famous for its majority of vegetarian population, a senior official of the state government today said.

In some of the letters to the chief minister in this regard it was said that consumption of non-veg food and egg gave rise to various types of cancer and kidney diseases.

Now there are 26 such profiles under the Agro and Food Processing department on the website including Mechanized Grain Handling and Storage Unit at Ports, Biodegradable Packaging for Food Products, Cold Storage Unit For Fresh Onions, Peanut Butter Manufacturing Unit, Hand-Picked and Selected Groundnut Processing Unit, Health Drink Manufacturing Plant, De-hulled Sesame Seed & Roasted Sesame Oil Unit, Fruit Processing Unit in Gujarat, Baker’s Yeast Unit, Maize Value Added Unit, Neem/Tobacco oil Based Pesticide Unit, Medicinal Herbs Extraction Unit, Instant Vegetables in Retort Pouches, Castor Derivatives Base Perfumery Raw Materials Unit, Banana Fibre Extraction and Textiles Production Unit, Freeze Dried Fruit Processing Unit, Cattle Feed Manufacturing and Processing Unit, High-Tech Dairy Farming Unit and Organic milk and milk product manufacturing and processing unit.
