Surendranagar receives 100% rain of monsoon 2010

Gujarat’s Surendranagar district has completed 100% rain of this monsoon. Surendranagar has thus become seventh district of Gujarat in this monsoon season to cross 100% rain mark. The other districts that have received more than the entire season rain this monsoon so far are Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Banaskantha, Porbandar and Kutch.

Surendranagar’s five out of ten Talukas have received more than 100% rain. While other five talukas have received rain in range between 69.83% and 86% till now during this monsoon.

It should be mentioned that last year, Surendranagar had experienced poorest monsoon in Saurashtra belt. This forced government to come up with a new water supply project based on Narmada canal. A new pipeline was laid to bring Narmada canal waters to Dholi Dhaja dam through lift. Huge amount of electricity was spent to lift the water through pumping. The government had no alternative as there was no other scope to provide drinking water to the people of Surendranagar and surrounding villages.

Fortunately, this year, in this district, most of the dams are full, and some witnessed overflow too.
