BJP's Muslim candidate loses in Ahmedabad's Sarkhej

Muslim voters of Ahmedabad’s Juhapura area voted for Congress and made all three Congress candidates victorious here.

BJP had for the first time selected two Muslim candidates in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation poll. While one Muslim candidate was fielded from Rajpur ward, the other one, a retired IPS A.I.Saiyad was fielded on Sarkhej seat.

While Congress panel had all-three Muslim candidates in view of Muslim majority area, the BJP had given ticket to Mr. Saiyad – a Muslim and two Hindu candidates.

All Congress candidates are victorious, while BJP’s all three candidates have lost the election.

Among all three BJP candidates, Shri Saiyad got highest votes. BJP candidate Abdulmiyan Ibrahimmiyan Saiyad(A.I.Saiyad) secured 12014 votes. Other BJP candidates Jayshriben Soni got 10325 votes, while BJP candidate Bhupatji Thakor secured 9813 votes.

Congress candidate Hajibhai Cementwala got 15382 votes. While other two Congress candidates Roshanben Vora and Samirkhan Pathan secured 13513 and 13526 votes respectively.

This means BJP’s A.I.Saiyad lost just by margin of 1499 votes.

BJP had organized its first public meeting in Juhapura in history ahead of the civic poll.

However, similar to what happened in Junagadh in past, the Muslims didn’t favor BJP’s Muslim candidate, and continued to back Congress party.

Juhapura is an area which is considered as backward, and lacking of civic amenities. BJP had selected a Muslim candidate and promised the Muslims of Juhapura that the candidate if wins, will bridge Muslims to BJP regime in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. However the people of Juhapura have once again elected Congress candidates. Now there’s a question that how these Congress corporators will ensure development of Juhapura in BJP regime.
