Looking at the photograph above would create an impression that America’s first lady Michelle Obama took heritage walk in Ahmedabad, and visited famous pol area here.

But no, Michelle didn’t visit Gujarat. The photograph above shows Gujarat’s traditional Haveli, that has been set up at Delhi’s National Crafts Museum.

On Monday, Michelle Obama visited the National Crafts Museum, where she was delighted to see Gujarati wooden haveli.

This haveli was taken to Delhi from Gujarat several years back to showcase traditional Indian house. Gujarat is represented in the National Crafts Museum by a whole haveli (traditional house), jharokha (balcony) and a palatial facade; embroidered, beaded and printed wall hangings; saris employing techniques of brocade, ikat, jamdani and tie-and-dye.

During her visit to the museum, Michelle was also taken to the domed Chabutra (bird feeding tower) of Gujarat, that also houses the Shakti exhibit representing divine feminine energy.

The Economic Times writes:Interested in all the artisans’ skills, Mrs Obama was especially impressed by four-year-old Kavita who was making a doll with her little hands. “She praised my daughter and immediately picked 15 dolls and yoga thailas (pouches) from our stall,” beamed her father Sumer Bhora from Kutch in Gujarat.
