In a question answer round of India Today conclave today, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was asked what would he do after 2G spectrum scam, if he was the Prime Minister of India?
Replying to this, Modi said, “Why should it(the scam) happen at all?
Modi’s short and smart answer just impressed the audience instantly.
Replying to other questions, Modi said once there was a time when various states of the country were in competition of announcing incentives. But Gujarat government changed the direction, and came out of offering industrial incentive in year 2003. Instead the state focused more on creating an environment for industrial development, by selecting infrastructure policy driven path. In year 2009 Gujarat bravely organized Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit even amid recession, and proved its power by signing MOUs worth 240 billion dollar investment.
Modi said, Gujarat Electricity Company was incurring Rs. 2500 crore loss continuously for several years, but now the company is earning Rs. 500 crore plus without hike in tariff. The achievement was thanks to better use of technology, and preventing leakages.
“Be it any state, if it is policy driven, and not industrial driven, there would not be any possibility of gray area. Political will is needed for this,” Modi concluded.
