Fog seals off Ahmedabad airport,Emirates flight diverted to Mumbai
Ahmedabad, 26 November, 2010
Due to extra-ordinarily high fog in Ahmedabad, the Dubai-Ahmedabad flight of Emirates couldn’t land at Ahmedabad airport on time. The flight had to take rounds in the air for 40 minutes, and eventually had to be diverted to Mumbai airport. The flight could come back to Ahmedabad only after the fog situation improved at Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel international airport.
In its statement issued on Friday evening, the Emirates officials said: “Emirates confirms that flight EK 540 scheduled to arrive in Ahmedabad International airport at 08.15 hours today was diverted to Mumbai International Airport due to bad weather in Ahmedabad. After holding for 40 minutes in the air it landed at Mumbai International Airport at 09.55 hours The flight departed from Mumbai at 10.15 hours and landed safely in Ahmedabad at 12.06 hours.”
The statement further adds, “Emirates EK 540 flight had 277 passengers on board. Passengers were regularly updated on the developments of the flight by the airline staff. Emirates has provided snacks and refreshments to the passengers waiting at Ahmedabad international airport.”
The statement concludes stating that: “Emirates regrets the inconvenience caused to all passengers. The airline considers the safety and security of its passengers and crew of utmost importance.”
The Emirates flight departed for Dubai at about 2.00 pm. For the passengers who had arrived early in the morning to go to Dubai in Emirates flight, it was indeed a long wait, but they didn’t complain as the delay was purely due to environmental reasons.
Meanwhile, as many as 12 morning flights were delayed on Ahmedabad airport in the morning due to fog on Friday. Three of them were late for two to five hours. Two flights: Jet Airways Ahmedabad-Bhopal and Spice Jet Ahmedabad-Delhi were canceled.
