Will Modi protest CBI's case transfer plea, like he did in July?
Modi’s July ‘tevar’ against CBI’s demand to transfer Sohrab case outside the state

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday told the Supreme Court that free and fair trial in the Sohrabuddin case was not possible in Gujarat and the case should be transferred to Mumbai.

CBI’s this stand is likely to invite Narendra Modi’s anger.

In last July when CBI had filed an application in Supreme Court to shift Sohrabuddin encounter case trial outside Gujarat, Narendra Modi had publicly protested it and termed it as an insult of Gujarat’s judicial system. On 31st July, Gujarat University function, Modi had publicly protested CBI on this. Following is part of Modi’s speech:

“The way, one by one case is being transferred out of Gujarat – is insult of Gujarat’s court system.”

“If they want to transfer Gujarat’s cases outside, then should we lock our courts in Gujarat?”

“Should we shut down Gujarat’s law colleges, and law university?”

“Should we unemploy our lawyers and those associated with legal profession?”

“I will fight whatever accusations are made against me, I will tolerate my insult, but I would not tolerate insult of Gujarat’s courts, and judges at any cost.”

“Today’s new generation children of Gujarat don’t know what is‘curfew’. The peace, the development and the progress that prevail here is thank to the police and the court system here.”

“They are trying to malign my name for the last eight years. But now they have started maligning the judicial system of the state. I will not tolerate this. They can attack me but why the judicial system?”

“Are judges of Gujarat useless. Other courts of the country are good, but courts in Gujarat are bad?”

“Is not this an insult of Gujarat’s judges?”

“Isn’t this an insult of Gujarat’s advocates?”

“Isn’t this an insult of centuries old pro-justice culture of Gujarat?”

“How much more we have to tolerate?”

“I want to ask the Delhi sultanate, answer us, do you believe Gujarat as part of country or not?”

“Why is Gujarat being treated as if it was part of an enemy state?”

In July when CBI had demanded to transfer Sohrabuddin case outside the state, even Gujarat Bar Council had threatened to go on indefinite strike in protest. CBI had then backtracked its stand. Now when again CBI wants Sohrabuddin case to go outside the state, such stand could again spark protest in the state.
