Modi cancels Udupi visit for security reasons
Ahmedabad, 16 December, 2010
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi has canceled his this Sunday’s trip to Udupi because of security reasons. Modi was scheduled to attend the valedictory function of the three-day 80th birthday celebration of senior Pejavar Math seer Vishvesha Thirtha Swamiji in Udupi this Sunday, but his security officials, and Karnataka Police intelligence department advised Modi to avoid this visit.
According to reports from Karnataka the scheduled venue for the event, was found ‘not conducive’ to provide adequate security cover, concluded the Gujarat police. The venue has six entries and several ‘gaping holes’ which made it unsuitable for the high security VIP to participate in a public meet.
Modi is a Z plus category VIP and faces threat from Pakistan-based terror outfit LeT, which according to a US diplomatic cable made public by the whistleblowing website WikiLeaks, had made elaborate plans in June last year to assassinate Modi.
