Ahmedabad’s Crossword book store, Bandhej lifestyle store sealed

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation team on Monday sealed Ahmedabad’s prominent stores Crossword and Bandhej along with other 55 shops of Shri Krishna shopping centre near Mithakhali.

The bookstore is sealed because it occupies the basement which is not under ‘permissible use’ guidelines as laid by the general development control regulations (GDCR). According to prevailing GDCR, the basement, apart from being used as parking, can be used for fixed deposit vault of banks, air-conditioning units for hotels, storage area in case of residential buildings.

Unless the state government brings out an ordinance pertaining to an impact fee or regularization criteria, there is a bleak chance that these stores will reopen.
