Air India’s Gujarat head Shri Melvyn Desilva today told DeshGujarat that Air India flight no.191 between Ahmedabad-Mumbai-Newark will have Boeing 777 aircraft right from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Patel international airport from 10 January 2011 onwards.
According to Thomas, presently the passengers from Ahmedabad get small Air India plane 321 to reach Mumbai first for onward journey to Newark airport in New Jersey. They then leave their Ahmedabad-Mumbai plane and halt at Mumbai airport till the time the passengers from Mumbai join them. After this waiting period, they get a new Boeing 777 aircraft which they catch for journey between Mumbai and Newark. Obviously their baggage also shift in this bigger plane.
But from 10 January, Air India will operate bigger aircraft Boeing 777 right from Ahmedabad airport replacing the smaller 321 aircraft. This means the passengers of Gujarat will sit in Boeing 777 right at Ahmedabad airport. The plane will go to Mumbai and will halt there for 60-90 minutes period during which passengers of Mumbai will join them. The passengers from Ahmedabad will not have to leave the plane and will not need to shift in another plane. Because this same Boeing 777 which left Ahmedabad to reach Mumbai will go to Newark from Mumbai. Even their luggage will not be disturbed, because same plane will be used in end to end journey.
This minor change will give multiple facilities to passengers from Gujarat. The passengers who are presently not able to book their first class ticket to Newark right from Ahmedabad will be able to enjoy first class journey throughout the route between Ahmedabad and Newark from 10 January onwards.
Another good development would be that the luggage missing problems will almost come down to zero percent, because presently most luggage related issues occur during the process of luggage shifting between Ahmedabad-Mumbai aircraft and Mumbai-Newark aircraft(same in return journey). When only one plane will take passengers from Ahmedabad to New Jersey, this problem will be solved.
One more good development due to this will be that the seat will continue to remain same from Ahmedabad to NJ.
Yes, staying in plane for 60-90 minutes without leaving it at Mumbai airport could be a problem if things are not on time.
