PM hints at pressure by BJP for Gujarat Minister’s release
New Delhi, 16 February, 2011

Addressing Press conference of TV channel editors, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today hinted that it was Gujarat minister’s arrest that was responsible for BJP’s aggressive protests that stalled the parliament.

In reply to a question asked by Bloomberg TV’s Pranjal Sharma about parliament being stalled by the opposition the Prime Minister said, “The opposition parties, particularly the BJP party has taken a very hostile attitude, and the reason that has been given quite frankly I can not I can mention in public they say because you have taken some decision against a particular person who was a minister in Gujarat, you must reverse it or you ….. I don’t want to add further.”

Just after the Prime Minister’s Press conference was over, the BJP President Gadkari speaking at a press meet denied that the BJP had put pressure on the PM over charges faced by a Gujarat minister.

The Prime Minister was referring to arrest of former Gujarat minister of state for Home Amit Shah who was arrested without any evidence in alleged fake encounter case by the central government controlled investigative agency Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI). Shah had to resign just before he surrendered before the CBI. He spent sometime in jail and now he is free on bail. However on Supreme Court’s suggestion he is living outside Gujarat.
