PM's Gujarat remark most laughable thing of 2011, says Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has termed Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s yesterday’s remark on Gujarat during the interaction with the media in New Delhi as laughable. Chief Minister has clearly stated that this was Prime Minister’s meaningless attempt to wash his own stain. Modi said the PM has tried to involve Gujarat to rescue himself. “It is in fact the most laughable thing of year 2011”.

Challenging the Prime Minister’s opinion on GST, the Chief Minster said that when Dr. Manmohan Singh confesses in public that he works under compulsion, he should put correct information before the people instead of terming Gujarat government or some minister as responsible.

Making clear that Gujarat government’s stand on GST has been positive from beginning, the Chief Minister said that there should be political willingness for economic reforms.

The Chief minister said that one year back, he had a meeting with central Finance minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee and he(Modi) had clearly stated that until the completion of set up of Information technology network in the country, implantation of GST would not be successful. Modi said, the Central Finance minister had accepted this suggestion and had informed his personal secretary to form a task force and empowered committee for creation of such I.T. network, but unfortunately there was no progress in this direction.

In connection with his one-year old meeting with the central Finance minister, the Chief Minister has in a statement asked the Prime Minister to put procedures and minutes of government of India’s empowered committee on GST in public, “because barring the talks and only talks on reform, there’s no progress in this regard actually.”

Shri Modi also said that whether GST or any other matter should not do any harm to good of any state. “Not only non-Congress ruled states but the parties that support UPA are also agreed to this. In such situation, central government has not even started initial procedures. The central government has not been able to bring economic reform, and it now projects state governments responsible for that.”

The Chief Minister has said in his statement that When the Prime minister confessed his compulsions publicly, then instead of terming Gujarat’s one minister as responsible, he should make real facts behind his failure public.
