One Gujarat MLA who's not likely to attend entire budget session

Will former minister of state for Home Shri Amit Shah will attend Gujarat assembly’s more than a month long budget session? The answer is “No”.

Shah is MLA from Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej and it is his right to attend the assembly session, but the Supreme Court’s October 2010 directive suggests that he should not enter Gujarat. Obeying the Supreme court’s directive Shah is living outside Gujarat since last October.

Most of the time he lives in New Delhi. He was last seen in BJP’s national executive in Assam. Before that he was seen in BCCI meeting in Mumbai. Even before that he was seen at southern Rajasthan’s Shrinathji Mandir.

Last year Shah was arrested by Central government controlled investigation agency CBI for his alleged involvement in gangster Sohrabuddin’s encounter case. Shah was released after Gujarat High Court granted him bail. However central government controlled agency CBI challenged this order immediately in the Supreme Court. Whether to cancel Shah’s bail or not? The case is pending before the Supreme Court since last October.

Today the Supreme Court has announced 6th April date for next hearing. So Shah is free at least till then. Shah has not sought permission of the court to allow him to attend the Budget session of the Gujarat assembly. This clearly indicates that he is not going to attend the session.
