RPG removed from vessel in mid-sea operation off Gujarat coast
Rajkot, 6 March, 2011
A joint team of Indian Coast Guard and Gujarat Police today disposed off a live rocket propelled grenade(RPG) in mid sea operation.
A vessel MT AGI left Europe’s Greece and was on a way to Gujarat’s Sikka port for diesel loading. On 4 March when the vessel was 550 nautical mile away from Gujarat coast, it was attacked with high intensity Rocket Propelled Granade(RPG) explosive possibly by pirates in high-sea. However RPG didn’t burst. Those in vessel informed this to concerned authorities in Gujarat.
Thus a joint team of Rajkot’s bomb disposal squad, Indian Navy and Gujarat Police’s Marine division was formed. The joint-team first asked those in-command of vessel to divert it towards Okha and ordered that the vessel should not enter the Gulf of Kutch. Later the teams stepped into the vessel about 15 nautical mile from Okha port. The RPG was successfully dumped into the sea.
