A huge anchor discovered from sea placed on traffic island in Surat
Surat, 10 March, 2011
In year 2002 some fishermen of Surat discovered a big anchor from the Arabian sea at Hazira coast of south Gujarat. This was not an ordinary anchor. It was a big one with unusual size – almost double in height compare to an average human being. It was taller than Amitabh Bachchan and so weighty that it could be pulled out from the sea by two boats employing their full strength.
A group of fishermen involved in discovery and lifting and shifting task of this anchor donated it to Sailors club which ultimately gifted it to Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC).
Yesterday the SMC installed this anchor at Nanpura, Navdi Ovara at a cost of Rs. 3.50 lakh. Proposed walkway on the bank of river Tapi nearby will be graced by this anchor in future.
