Ahmedabad, 16 March, 2010

Thousands of rural protesters mostly from Mahuva, but also from other parts of Gujarat today marched on the roads of Ahmedabad. At any location on which the rally passed, it could be constantly seen passing for more than half an hour. The rally was about two-three km long. Tribal people joined the rally with traditional music instruments like Dhol. Gujarat Vidyapeeth students also were spotted in the rally. One dog ‘Moti’ was with this rally from beginning. Slogans like ‘Dekho dekho kaun aya, Mahuva ka sher aya’, ‘Gandhi Bapu zindabad’, ‘Jaan daishu, jamin nahi, ‘Khedut jaage, Nirma bhaage’, ‘Rotla uge jamin ma, factory ma nahi’ were heard in rally.
The rally was welcomed at Juhapura by Muslims, at Vasna agriculture market by representatives of traders, and also at MahaGujarat Janata Party headquarter and Congress headquarter in Paldi area. It was also welcomed at Kochrab Ashram and Gujarat Vidyapeeth.
The rally was peaceful and amazingly disciplined. One Nirma University bus passed touching the rally for two kilometers. The bus had ‘Nirma’ painted all over its body, but not a single person showed even a sign of agitation against the bus.
At Gandhi Ashram, just before the start of the meeting, one farmer came and presented lemons of his farm to Dr. Kalsaria. The farmer later told media persons that his son was treated by Dr. Kalsaria way back before years. Today his son is abroad, but when he came to know about Dr. Kalsaria’s march, he called and asked to support him.
One poor old lady entertained those in rally and in public meeting with ‘rotla’, ‘nariyel’, and ‘dungli’ made out of cement. This lady would stand and offer the food items of cement, then she would say that nobody was taking such food items because they were made of cement, but at least Chief Minister Narendra Modi will take such food items because it was he who allowed cement factory over the water body and over the village farms that grow food.
Ahmedabad part of the rally concluded at Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram, where a small public meeting was held and speeches were delivered by Dr. Kanubhai Kalsaria, Sanat Mehta, Ashok Mehta(CPM party Bhavnagar), Arunbhai Dave(former Vice Chancellor of Gujarat Vidyapeeth), Indravijaysinh Gohil(Youth Congress Chief of Gujarat), Chunilal Vaidya(Gandhi follower) and Gordhan Jhadafia(MahaGujarat Janata Party leader).
Participants took lunch at Abhay Ghat near Gandhi Ashram. They reached Koba in evening, from where they will march to Gh-3 circle of Gandhinagar tomorrow. Beyond that point, only a few leaders including Dr. Kalsaria will go and possibly meet Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
