Skill can get you a job, but knowledge can create the jobs:Modi in conclave

Some glimpses from Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at India Today conclave today.

“Can our nation become a big power in the world? Based on my last ten years experience I can say that YES India can become a big power. If we utilize our strength and resources at optimum level, we can achieve that.”

“There’s no doubt that 21st century will be Asia’s century. And when there’s comparison between India and China we should see three major points: One is our democracy, second is our youth power and third is our Judicial system. These three make us different than others.”

“Europe and America will need services of 7 crore people in coming years, we would need to train our people for that.”

“According to some inputs, today 90% people get job on the basis of skill. But I think we need to change our planning, whether to give emphasize to skill or to knowledge. Our focus should be on knowledge base jobs. While skill can get the job, knowledge can create the jobs.”

“Only manufacturing sector will not work. New generation is coming up with a new face. Next generation is identified as Net generation. In last one decade, Gujarat’s education initiatives are worth notable. During recent Vibrant summit we invited topmost universities of 33 countries topmost university to know about global requirement, and mode of requirement of manpower in coming years.”

“Each and every person in this audience would wish to provide best education to his/her child. Even poorest of poor parents would wish that. But good education can’t be brought just on the basis of good infrastructure, but on the basis of good teachers. I invite youths to take teaching as career.”

Q & A round:

On Godhra:

“This subject is under consideration of the Supreme Court. SIT formed by the Supreme Court had questioned me, and I had answered. I wish this subject should be now addressed by the Supreme Court.”

On minority’s safety and peace in Gujarat:

“Even if I say yes there’s peace, who knows whether you will be ready to believe it or not. Because your this programme will go on till the date I die. Gujarat is region where from year 1736 communal riot history is available in text. There was not a single month in the state when somewhere or other place did not witness curfew. This was part of the life in the state. But I can say with proud that after 2002 there’s no communal clash, no curfew anywhere in the state. Akshardham was attacked by terrorists, Ahmedabad bomb blast killed hundreds of people, but whole Gujarat was peaceful. If you come and see this peaceful atmosphere yourself, you will never question again such question.”

On Chintan Shibir:

Each state has different situation. Same things that we applied in Gujarat can not be fixed in other state. We organize one brainstorming meet for three days from five in morning to ten thirty in night. Such shibir contains no hierarchy. Even CM can sit on the back side occupying one seat there. In such shibirs we also call those officials who have practiced some good experiment successfully in other part of the nation. We had called Chhattisgadh official in recently concluded shibir to know about his state’s success in PDS. Two years back we had called Chief Secretary of Nagaland. Once we called an official from Kerala.

On federal system of India:

Federal system that we have experienced in last sixty years has delivered us good results, but encroachment and actions based on political reasons should be prevented.Barring this the system has no problem. We can keep this nation united and can make growth. It is our responsibility to keep this system like that. But look what happens, recently they have sent Income Tax notice to us. Earlier there was one party government in the states and in centre, but now all kinds of parties are ruling somewhere or at other place. If we can work in lubricant way, the system and its provisions are good.
