1,707 Government doctors in Gujarat went abroad in last 3 yrs
Gandhinagar, 25 March, 2011
In last three years, over 1,707 doctors working at state-run hospitals in Gujarat have quit jobs and gone abroad, breaking the bond signed with the state government and paying penalty for the same. The state government has recovered Rs 1,149 lakh from for breaching the bond with the government according to Gujarat Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas.
Vyas today told this to state assembly in a written reply to the question asked by the Congress MLA Babubhai Shah.
According to Vyas, 544 government doctors went overseas in 2008, 560 in 2009 and 603 in 2010. “There has not been much increase in the number of doctors breaking the bonds and going overseas every year,” Vyas said.
The state government on the other side is facing flak from various quarters for not being able to fill the 40 per cent vacant posts of MBBS doctors, and 60 per cent vacant posts of doctors with PG qualification, or super-specialty degrees, at government hospitals.
