This was ‘talk of the town’ issue in Amdavad on Friday
Ahmedabad, 1 April, 2011

This is talk of the town matter in Ahmedabad throughout Friday. Ahmedabad’s ‘Nagar devi’ Bhadrakali Mandir’s main murthy of Goddess Bhadrakali was today dressed in Indian cricket team t-shirt by local ‘Pujari’ here. ‘Pujari’ says he had took a pledge that if Indian cricket team would come to final of ICC cricket world cup 2011, he would offer an Indian cricket team dress to Goddess Bhadrakali. Thus he says he has made Goddess’s murthy wearying Indian cricket team t-shirt.
Devotees who visited the Mandir on Friday morning were shocked to see Goddess’s murthy in T-Shirt and skirt! Many of them took this as an insult of Nagardevi.
Traditionally Goddess Bhadrakali’s murthy dresses saree. It is for the first time perhaps in the history of Gujarat that any Goddess’s murthy has been dressed in t-shirt, that too for the game of cricket.
Some Brahmins told trustees of Mandir that murthy should be dressed at the most in tricolor saree, but why starting a new tradition by dressing it up in t-shirt?
Update
Mandir authority changed the dress in the evening.
