Minister narrates the size of Gujarat’s growth and its inclusiveness(Video)
Ahmedabad, 18 April, 2011
Presented above is a video that contains initial part of Gujarat Minister of state Shri Saurabh Patel’s speech in which he narrates the size of Gujarat’s growth and its inclusiveness. The minister was speaking at Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry(GCCI)’s grand convention at Gujarat University convention hall.
The minister says: “In 1960, Gujarat’s plan size was only Rs. 34 crore. Plan size figures are like development barometer. From 1960 to 2002 various governments came to power and annual plan size figure reached upto Rs. 6,000 crore. Now this year in annual budget, our plan size was Rs. 37,152 crore! And there was no significant added burden of new taxes.”
“While doing the exercise of allocation of money to various departments, we always consider a factor called inclusive growth. Today we talk that in Gujarat industries are doing very well. But the basic reason behind this is rise in farmers’ income. Gujarat farmers had income of Rs. 5,000 crore in 2002, and the latest figures available to us suggest that in 2009-10 their income was Rs. 49,000 crore, and this year it will be even more. This shows Rs. 44,000 crore rise in income in 18,000 villages. In Each village there’s rise of Rs. 2-3 crore income.”
“This results in growth in purchasing power which triggers more buying because in rural areas saving potential is comparatively lower. More purchase means more production in industries. This year only in Narmada department the government has allocated Rs.7,000 crore. You can imagine that in 2002, entire govt budget was Rs. 6,000 crore, but today the government has allotted Rs. 7,000 crore to only one Narmada department. This is the real state of Gujarat’s economy, and this is what we call inclusive growth.”
