Modi slams Rahul over ‘hero’ remark without naming him
Rajkot, 18 April, 2011

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today slammed Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi without naming him. Modi without naming Rahul Gandhi said that his remark was clearly an insult of Shri Anna Hazareji.

Addressing a public meeting in Rajkot district’s Morbi, the Chief Minister with angry face and aggressive body language said, “some people allege that Anna Hazare is fighting against corruption to become hero, but they should know that Hazare was fighting corruption in his village years back when nobody cared to print a single line about it. Nobody had seen his photo, but he was fighting against corruption in those years. To say that Hazare is fighting against corruption to become hero is mistake. People need to know those who paint the movement against corruption in such taste. Do people spend their entire life fighting against corruption to become hero? This is Anna Hazareji’s insult.”

It should be mentioned that Congress party’s General Secretary Rahul Gandhi reacting to the former Supreme Court judge, V.R. Krishna Iyer’s letter accusing him of being “silent” on corruption had said yesterday that he is working to improve the “rotten system” instead of just complaining and has no intention of being glorified as a hero.

“I work because I believe in working to improve a system that is rotten and not to be glorified,” he said.

“As far as becoming a hero is concerned, unfortunately, that is of absolutely no interest to me,” he added.

Referring to the agitation by Anna Hazare on Lokpal Bill, 95-year-old Justice Krishna Iyer in his April 9 letter had said: “You [Rahul Gandhi] will become the hero if you take up the great challenge of transformation of India into an egalitarian society, a Gandhian India, a Nehruvian India, not nuclear India. Why should the Hazare phenomenon occur at all? Only because of so many evils and no actions from Delhi.”

“Corruption is rampant. If you are sensitive about people, you must attack the big corrupt persons in power. Why are you silent,” Justice Krishna Iyer had asked Mr. Gandhi.
