"Sanjiv Bhatt on leave without permission, he broke rules by keeping policemen in Ahmedabad"

Following is near perfect translation of Gujarat Director General of Police’s release about IPS Sanjiv Bhatt’s security. The release was signed by V.G.Madia, Public Relation Officer to Director General of Police, Gujarat state.

______
Shri Sanjiv Bhatt, IPS was transferred from Civil Defense, Ahmedabad to Principal, SRP training school, Junagadh by Gujarat government’s Home ministry’s 31 August 2010 notification, accordingly he had informed on 1 September 2010 that he had taken over the charge at new place.

Shri Bhatt had sought half-pay off for 54 days starting from 14 February, 2011. His this application was under process in Gujarat DGP office and on 12 February 2011 he was told through a letter that until and unless this office approves, he must not go on leave. However Shri Bhatt disregarded this instruction and has gone on leave. Any Police official deserve to get police staff at his official house allotted to him where he is stationed for his duty. However Shri Bhatt had kept police staff at his Ahmedabad’s residence without seeking any approval of his any higher official.

Fact about the statements that Shri Sanjiv Bhatt, IPS, DIG had appeared before Special Investigation Team about Godhra riots on 21 March, 2011 and after that newspapers and TV channels had highlighted news about his statement and his affidavit in Supreme Court and in this connection, the state government is not providing Security to Sanjiv Bhatt is presented below.

Shri Sanjiv Bhatt has sought security and his letter in this regard has been received by the Home ministry of Gujarat and same letter has been received by the state Police on 4 March. After this Special Investigation Team’s letter on 21 March about giving security to Sanjiv Bhatt has also been received.

In regard to Sanjiv Bhatt’s demand, threat assessment process was carried out and according to threat assessment report Sanjiv Bhatt has done duty like other police officials and he has not received threat and therefore there is no opinion about providing him Police security.

Even after this fact, the Supreme Court has ordered to provide security to those witnesses of Godhra riots who demand it, and in this regard as Bhatt had demanded security through SIT, and Home ministry, one armed personal security officer has been provided to him at his residence by order of 23 April, 2011 round the clock.

Therefore the news in section of newspapers that his security has been withdrawn are not correct.
