DDU, Nadiad to get fund for setting up ‘Centre of Excellence in VLSI’

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering of Dharmsinh Desai University, Nadiad, one of the leading universities in ICT education Gujarat, has been offered a fund of Rupees 1.50 Crores (Rupess One and Half Crore) for setting up the ‘Centre of Excellence in VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration), which will include setting up a Microelectronics Laboratory at par with IIT.The fund will be offered by the State Government for deployment of laboratory infrastructure, whereas delivery of educational content will be provided by the Centre for Distance Engineering Education Program, IIT Bombay.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Dr. H. M. Desai said “The proposed centre will cater to the need of a solid practical orientation in manpower training in the field of electronic applications ranging from consumer devices, to biomedical devices, industrial and power electronic devices designed with help of system on chip (SoC) concept empowered by VLSI design and Embedded Systems. On site training on the use of market based latest real time design tools and projects will be looked after with the support of IIT Professors in this innovative model created for Improvement of skills of students and young faculty.”

“VLSI is the field which involves packing more and more logic devices into smaller and smaller areasDemand for VLSI engineers across the globe and India is increasing exponentially. Major silicon design companies like Intel, TI, Motorola have set-up shops in India apart from Indian companies like Wipro, Infosys, Sasken diversifying into VLSI. The demand far exceeding the supply, throws a big opportunity for the technical institutes offering engineering programs.” Dr H M Desai added.
