Rajkot, 14 May, 2011
Saurashtra’s ginning mills owners have so far received positive response from central government over their demand to increase cotton export quota.
A delegation of Ginners Association of Saurashtra visited capital Delhi this week to meet Textile Minister Dayanidhi Maran to demand increase in cotton export quota. However as Dayanidhi Maran was out of the town, the delegation met Shri Ahmed Patel, MP from Gujarat who is also a political adviser to Congress President smt Sonia Gandhi.
According to members of delegation, Patel talked with Maran on phone and fixed a meeting on Wednesday. Thus the delegation will again visit New Delhi on Wednesday.
However the members of the Ginning mills association clarified that there is no change in their earlier declared strike agitation from 15th May demanding increase in export quota.
The ginning mill owners claim that under the pressure of south India based textile units, the central government has imposed quota and license over cotton export which has resulted into a poor rates for farmers, and has hit cotton ginning industry’s work.
