Junagadh Mayor on indefinite fast, BJP says his agitation misleadingJunagadh’s Mayor Satishbhai Virda, Standing Committee Chairman Bhagabhai Rada and leader of the ruling party in Junagadh Municipal Corporation Shri Hunsainbhai Hala are on indefinite hunger strike for last two days. They are protesting against alleged partial behavior of city’s Municipal Commissioner who has been appointed by state government.

Junagadh is one of the two Municipal Corporations ruled by Congress party in Gujarat.

According to JMC Mayor Satishbhai Virda, work orders are not issued for last four months. Even tendering process has been completed in some projects, but work orders are pending. Also, approval of construction is pending for last nine months.

Virda further said, all officials are ‘in-charge’ in JMC. Even important departments like water works and health, the main officials are not appointed.Annual rates are not approved because of which grantable works of Councillors are pending for long time.

Virda claims Municipal Commissioner is working on direction of state government that wants to defame ruling Congress in Junagadh.

Meanwhile according to Junagadh’s BJP MLA and former Mayor Shri Mahendra Mashru, the Congress leaders are misleading the people. Mashru said, in last two years the state government has given Rs. 113.53 crore sum under various schemes to Junagadh. Moreover JMC also gets more than Rs 1.36 crore grant on behalf of Octroi, and also earns Rs 12 crore per year as taxes. Even then there’s no development in the city, and therefore the protest is invalid.
