Rana declared innocent,a major foreign policy setback:Modi(Video)Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today reacted sharply on US declaring Tahawwur Rana innocent in Mumbai attack.

Chief Minister Modi tweeted today on Twitter, “US declaring Tahawwur Rana innocent in Mumbai attack has disgraced the sovereignty of India and it is a major foreign policy setback.”

Modi further said, “just to please Pakistan, US has unlocked the way for all the 26/11 ‘Mumbai attack’ terrorists to be free of guilt.”

“The masterminds active behind the terrorist movements in India, will now seek justice in the courts of America,” Modi further tweeted adding in another tweet that, “Will US let the Indian court take a trial of 9/11 terrorist attack case?”

It should be mentioned here that Modi had recently criticized the central government for missing a chance of generating international pressure against Pakistan in post Laden situation. In his speech delivered at BJP’s national executive of Anusuchit Jati morcha at Gandhinagar Modi had also slammed America for its soft approach towards Pakistan.

Meanwhile American embassy in India has issued a release which says: Tahawwur Hussain Rana was found guilty June 9 by a federal jury in Chicago of providing material support to terrorist group Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (Lashkar) and participating in a conspiracy involving a terrorism plot against a Danish newspaper, however the jury acquitted Rana of conspiracy to provide material support to the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

The U.S. embassy release further says:Rana, 50, a Canadian citizen, was convicted of one count of providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and one count of conspiracy to provide material support to the terrorism plot in Denmark. He faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison on the two counts combined and remains in federal custody without bond. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

Rana is the second defendant to be convicted among a total of eight co-defendants who have been indicted in this case since late 2009. Co-defendant David Coleman Headley, 50, pleaded guilty in March 2010 to all 12 counts against him, including aiding and abetting the murders of the six American victims in Mumbai. Headley is facing a maximum sentence of life in prison.
