Bhuj, 21 June, 2011

According to reports, HPCL chartered ship from Great eastern shipping leaked 1,00,000 liter High speed Diesel into sea pipeline rupture at MUNDRA Adani Port during process of off-loading to tanks. An oil spill reported on Tuesday actually occurred a few days ago, however, no official confirmation on when it occurred was available.
Though the valves were shut down, about 1,00,000 litres of high-speed diesel valued in crores leaked into the sea, the report said.
The valve of one of the tanks was tightened so much that due to the back pressure, the pipeline ruptured for 3-4 minutes, resulting in a leakage, Principal Secretary Forest and Environment, Gujarat state Shri S.K Nanda said today.
According to Nanda since the major spill is on the land side and not in the sea directly, its not a major concern. According to HPCL spokesperson, it was a minor leakage that had been contained.
Later the Gujarat Pollution control board said that the Oil spill reported at Mundra port was only to the tune of 500 liters.
