Rajya Sabha election in Gujarat, the heat is on
Gandhinagar, 5 July, 2011
Notification for Gujarat’s three Rajya Sabha seats election is out today on 5 July. The last date of filing nomination is 12 July. Out of three seats the BJP is going to get two seats while Congress has to select one candidate for a single seat.
BJP parliamentary board’s meet will be held on 6 July to discuss the names of two candidates. It is likely that the meeting will give power to select the BJP candidates to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, state BJP President R.C.Faldu and General Secretary Bhikhubhai Dalsania.
It is believed that BJP will announce names of its candidates on 10th July fron Delhi office. Though Ahmed Patel’s name is almost final for one seat of Congress, Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia is visiting New Delhi to discuss the final details today.
The election has become interesting due to Shankarsinh Vaghela factor. Vaghela’s ambition to go to Rajya Sabha to become minister in centre is highly discussed in the political circles. If Vaghela is not given ticket, he may join NCP. This can spoil Congress’s chances to win several seats in Gujarat assembly election 2012, because Shankarsinh Vaghela’s candidates would ultimately cut Congress votes.
