Exhumation case: Teesta summoned on July 18
Teesta and her husband Javed

The Panchmahal police has summoned Mumbai based controversial foreign funded NGO operator Teesta (Javed) Setalvad on 18 July in connection with the Pandarwada exhumation case.

Setalvad was earlier summoned to remain present on March 25 and May 9 also, but she didn’t cooperate as per the police version. Teesta had filed petition in Gujarat High Court demanding quashing of the FIR against her. However Gujarat High Court rejected her plea in May this year. As no relief from the High Court, Teesta was expected to be grilled by Lunawada Police. Following this, she has been summoned now on 18 July.

On December 27, 2005, bodies of riot victims were allegedly exhumed on the outskirts of Lunawada town without following proper procedures. Setalwad’s close aide at the time of the incident Rais Khan and other accused were named in the case. All the accused have been arrested and some including Khan even registered judicial confessions.
