Crude bombs found in Ahmedabad, Two accused held

The Ahmedabad Police Zone-6 and the Danilimda Police jointly conducted a raid today morning in the city’s Danilimda area and hatched the plan of a man named Shehzad who was planning to execute bomb blasts in the city. Shehzad has been caught along with his aide. The Police recovered 1 crude bomb in Shehzad’s residence and 7 bombs near Chandola Lake. Two desi Tamanchas were also recovered along with the bombs.

The crude bombs were diffused by the Bomb Disposal Squad. The bombs were laced with Khillis (Sharp screws), marbles, pieces of glass and ball bearings. Bombs like these can cause serious injuries to people standing at a close range. The victim might even die if the bomb explosion causes injuries to sensitive parts of the body. The bombs have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory to know whether any chemical was added to the explosives. Shehzad is in Police custody and is being interrogated.

After the Mumbai bomb explosions on 13-7-2011, Gujarat was put on high alert and the police was keeping an eye on many potential suspects. After this the police came to know that a person named Shehzad was involved in making crude bombs. The Ahmedabad Police and the Danilimda police jointly conducted a raid today morning at 5:30 AM and recovered 1 bomb from his house. Upon being asked he said that he was hiding 7 bombs and 2 tamanchas in Chandola Lake. The police also revealed that Shehzad was intending to use these bombs for explosions during Rathyatra but he could not carry out his plans because of the heavy security, and the Mumbai bomb explosions re-inspired him to execute such an activity in Ahmedabad.

The most astonishing part of this incident is that the police complaint was made by Shehzad’s wife. She called the police and notified them of Shehzad’s activity. The Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad said that the minority community has shown tremendous cooperation,considering the fact that Shezad’s wife also belongs to the community. He also pointed out that 99.9 % people of the minority community want peace but it is the remaining 0.1 % who want to disrupt communal harmony.
