-As Governor of Gujarat has returned the Impact fee bill, now the ghost of sealing is back to haunt Ahmedabad’s CG Road shop owners.

-The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has asked the shop owners on CG Road to close down their shops/offices within next 15 days.

-AMC had opened the sealed shops earlier following assurance that the fee payment would be made once the bill was cleared. But now when the bill has been returned by governor to assembly this logic doesn’t stand anymore.

-The CG Road Shop Owners Association had sought a stay on the sealing drive in the high court with an expectation that the impact fees bill would be signed by governor Dr Kamla. The high court granted three months’ time to the shop owners but the order was challenged in the Supreme Court and the apex court stayed the implementation of the high court order. The AMC has submitted an undertaking to the SC, assuring the court that the old status would be restored after the stipulated period. As per the undertaking, AMC have asked all the illegal property owners to close down their establishments. The AMC has given 15 days to the shop owners to seal back their premises. If they fail to comply with the order, the AMC could not only disconnect the water and drainage connections but will cancel all the licenses.

-Eight buildings of CG Road will face complete sealing due to this development. They are: karishma complex, Omkar house, Asarpota chambers, Bhagwati chambers, Surya complex, Suryoday complex, Sun complex and Kamal complex.

-32 buildings will face sealing in parking and basement shops. They are: Om complex, Agrawal complex, Navnit plaza, Maradia plaza, Trade centre, Akruti tower, Karishma complex, Chandan complex, Nar Narayan complex, Anand Mangal-2, B.K house, Bhagwati chambers, Amar complex, Urja house, Bhadraraj chambers, Aniket complex, Purohit avenue, Surbhi complex, Amir complex, Anand park, Amola chambers, Agrawal avenue, Siba hotel, Singapore avenue, Swagat complex, General bank chambers, Parisima complex, Vaishali complex, Empire, Chaitanya complex, Sahajanand complex, White house.

-In recently concluded state executive meeting, the BJP formed a committee in connection with the impact fee bill that has been returned by the Governor.

-CG Road traders are planning to organize dharna against the Governor in front of Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar.

-CG Road traders have asked why Gujarat Governor sat on the bill for 100 days and then she returned the bill? What was she doing with the bill for 100 days?

-Gujarat Governor’s view while returning the bill was that why government should introduce impact fee bill once and again and why those who constructed illegal shops/offices/buildings should not be penalized? Why also the officials that were on duty when illegal constructions were going on should also not penalized? Governor wants to add such provisions in the bill.

-Impact fee bill was passed by both BJP and main opposition Congress party unanimously in the state assembly in last March.
