Gujarat govt seeks 3-month extension for Shri Sudhir Sinha
Ahmedabad, 21 July, 2011

According to sources in Gandhinagar, the state government has written to the Centre seeking three-month extension in service for the Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, Shri Sudhir Sinha. Extremely popular and upright officer Shri Sinha is due to retire in the end of this month. The state home department is waiting for the central government’s reply in this connection. If his extension is approved, Shri Sinha will continue to serve the city till the end of October this year. In that case the government could also eventually demand another three months extension later on.
Sources said the state government wants an extension for Sinha, the state’s only IPS officer who has worked as Police Commissioner of all four major cities: Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and Ahmedabad. The state home department reportedly wants him to remain the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner for the next 3 months.
The state had lastly sought extension of six months for then retiring Gujarat police chief Shri S.S.Khandawawala in year 2010 in two parts. While first extension of three months was granted, another extension of same period was not granted.
