89 Pakistani prisoners released from Jamnagar jail
Jamnagar, 22 July, 2011
89 Pakistani fishermen in Gujarat’s Jamnagar jail are released as their jail term is over. They are presently shifted to Jamnagar police headquarters and kept under police supervision in restriction. As soon as the procedure of necessary paper work with Pakistani embassy is completed, they will be sent to Wagah border, from where they are to be deported to Pakistan. This process may take around one week or longer.
All 89 fishermen released were arrested for crossing the international boundary between two countries inside the Arabian sea illegally and entering into Indian limit, in the period between November 2010 and January 2011. As their jail sentence has ended, 35+54 Pakistani fishermen are released from the jail and shifted to head quarter.
Having completed their term, legally these fishermen are no more culprit, and therefore they are treated well by police and also by media persons and other local organizations. As per the police manual, person under police supervision gets Rs. 20 for one-time lunch everyday. However it is difficult to manage a lunch for just Rs. 20. Therefore organizations have stepped in to help.
