IPS Sudhir Sinha gets 3-month extension

Ministry of Home, Government of India has sanctioned Gujarat government’s proposal to give three moths extension to Ahemdabad Police Commissioner IPS Shri Sudhir Sinha. Shri Sinha was to retire on 31st of July, but now he will continue his service till October end. The government can propose further extension of three more months in October, it it wishes, and if there are valid reasons.

It was for the first time that the state government had proposed extension of a police officer below DG rank. Shri Sudhir Sinha is deprived of DG rank due to technical reasons associated indirectly with the case of IPS Kuldeep Sharma.

Sudhir Sinha has presently taken up a huge task of setting up about 300 CCTV cameras in Ahmedabad city which is one of the possible targets of terrorists. In post-Mumbai attack and 15th August coming up next month, Sudhir Sinha’s extension is considered as welcome step.

Meanwhile, there’s hot discussion among IPS officers in Gujarat about whether Shri Sinha would be elevated to D.G rank or not before 31st of July.Government would not be able to do this in extension period of his job.
