Standing very much in Gujarat, Marathi leader Raj Thackeray spoke with the media persons in Hindi. Rare scene because he always prefers to talk in Marathi when in public. Thackeray who is on 9-day visit to Gujarat to study the development projects here today kicked off his tour by visiting Sabarmati Gandhi ashram in Gujarat.

Though entire nation and tones of figures have made it clear that Gujarat has overtaken Maharashtra so far as industrial development is concerned, during his interaction with media persons, Thackeray didn’t miss an opportunity to say that Mahrashtra is no. 1 in industry. He however showed unhappiness over Maharashtra’s poor performance in infrastructural issues such as power, roads and corruption.

“I have heard a lot about Gujarat’s development. It was nice to listen to hear that. When Nano came to Gujarat from West Bengal and when Ratan Tata sir praised Gujarat, Narendra Modi and state’s administration, then I felt that I should visit Gujarat and should see what’s happening there. I have honor for Shri Narendra Modi. He has worked indeed. I think if we look the country, when it comes to infrastructure development, it’s only Gujarat. And therefore I am in Gujarat for 8-9 days. I will keep meeting you and keep observing the things. If you ask me something today, I would say first let me see the things,” Thackeray said.

When asked whether there’s something political about this visit, Thackeray denied it and said, “if someone wants to see good things done by other and if you find something political in it then it’s very narrow thinking. If somebody thinks in this way, its his view, not my. Infrastructure development, state development is my passion and because of that passion I am here”.

When asked about Maharashtra’s development, Raj said, “in infrastructure development and other areas Maharashtra is much ahead. Development has started in Gujarat. There are so many schemes and projects that are initiated in Gujarat. In industry, and in many other areas Maharashtra is no.1. But if we look at Maharashtra disregarding the fact that who is ruling there, there are problems such as power cuts, road infrastructure and corruption. In Gujarat, how bureaucrats and government work together is interesting thing to observer for me.”

Thackeray said he is going to meet Narendra Modi for the first time today. He said today’s meet will last for an hour or so but on 11th he will have a detail meeting with Mr. Modi. Thackeray also said that he had brought a gift from Maharashtra for Mr. Modi which he would gift him today evening.

Pointing out that he was scheduled to arrive in Ahmedabad in train, when journalists asked why he changed schedule and came by air, Thackeray replied that he was unwell due to cold and also the trains were running late on Ahmedabad-Mumbai route(due to Vaitarana rail bridge erosion).

Thackeray was accompanied by his family members and supporters. After visiting Sabarmati Gandhi ashram, he also visited Sardar Patel smarak at Shahibag. Thackeray is also scheduled to visit Akshardham in Gandhinagar in the evening. In the afternoon he watched presentations of various government departments in Gandhinagar Circuit house.
