Ports of Saurashtra are now hoisting cautionary warning signal no.3 and fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea following heavy rain and strong winds in coastal areas.
Warning signal No 3 is hoisted at a port which is likely to experience squally weather (meant to cover occasional or frequent squalls with rains or persistent strong gusty winds accompanied with rain).
“The sea is rough with wind speed touching above 40 kmph. Fishermen, therefore, have been advised not to venture into the sea for the next one day”, A GMB officials said.
Meanwhile incidents of capsizing of fishing boats are reported in Porbandar, Veraval and Jakhau. In Jakhau, 56 fishermen were taken to hospital for medical treatment after seven boats capsized due to rough weather. Similarly in Ratiya, one boat capsized and two persons were rescued. In Veraval, one boat capsized. While all fishermen aboard were rescued, one person was still missing in this incident.
