SK Saikia is new police commissioner of Ahmedabad

A 1977 batch IPS officer S.K.Saikia is new police commissioner of Ahmedabad.
Saikia replaces outgoing police commissioner Sudhir Sinha who retired today.
Saikia has been city police commissioner in past too. He was appointed as the commissioner by the government on recommendation of the Election Commission of India during the 2007 Gujarat legislative election. He was made city police commissioner again in February 2009 replacing then commissioner OP Mathur. In September 2010 Saikia was shifted to Gandhinagar and Amitabh Pathal replaced him as city police commissioner.
Saikia’s last two postings were ADG Human Rights Commission, Gandhinagar and ADG Investigation, Gandhinagar.
Contrary to media friendly outgoing police commissioner Sudhir Sinha, Shri S.K.Saikia is known as reserved nature silent IPS who generally avoids interaction with media.
