Crushed under helicopter, jawan dies at Jamnagar Air Force station

Jamnagar, 24 November, 2011

Indian Air Force(IAF) Jawan Ashok kumar Shriramkishan Jat(24) of Rajasthan origin died on Wednesday in a tragic accident at Gujarat’s Jamnagar base of IAF.

Ashok kumar got crushed under heavy weight IAF helicopter when he was lying on the ground repairing the machine that was put on jack.

Late in the evening on Wednesday when IAF helicopter’s air compression repairing work was on, a jack tool set under the helicopter somehow got unsteady and suddenly unsettled. As a result, two jawans involved in repairing work under the helicopter got crushed in a fraction of second.

While one Ashokkumar Shriramkishan Jat(24) whose crucial part of body was under the helicopter was declared dead, another jawan Pradipkumar Harisingh Gupta(32) of Haryana was badly injured on both legs. Gupta was hospitalized and was critical according to police.

As many as 8 other persons involved in repair work on behalf of contractor were partially under helicopter when tragic incident happened. They successfully rescued themselves immediately.

There are three rods on the back side wheel of a helicopter. One is hydraulic rod while two are ordinary rods. A Jack tool was set to change ordinary rod. It is all possible that jack was not properly set or was faulty by built.
