Ahmedabad, 7 December, 2011
BJP has secured victory over Surat district’s Kanapura-Kansad and Valsad district’s Vapi Municipality.
As per the final result of Kanakpura-Kansad municipality general election, the BJP has secured victory on 11 seats, while rival Congress party has secured 10 seats. Kanakpura-Kansad is located just next to the city of Surat. This is BJP’s stronghold and political pundits believe that this victory could be shinier than this. This is because, in 2006 poll BJP won all 21 seats, but today in 2011 election Congress has gained as many as 10 seats.
However, in more important Vapi municipality general poll, BJP has received grand victory. BJP won 34 seats, which shows clear majority. Congress has been victorious over 8 seats. Total seats are 42. In 2006 poll, BJP won only 27 seats while Congress 15. This shows weaker position of Congress in this important industrial town, compare to 2006.
