IIMA showcases its strength at Society Conference 2014

Ahmedaba, 27 June, 2014

Did you know that workplace bullying exists in India and it is a major deterrent to a person’s performance? Or did you know that even though India has been sensitive to the hazards of e-waste and there are rules in place, only four states in India have approved collection centres for e-waste and, out of that, only one state has even got into the approved recycling mode?

Such topics, which only thorough research can throw light on, comprise the series of discussions that is being held at the IIMA Campus, today onwards, over the next two days. Termed, the IIMA Society Conference 2014, the annual event this time, has a theme focused on Achieving Excellence through People, Process, and Technology. Apart from seven major themes, some other themes of contemporary significance will also be added. The conference is aimed at sharing with the IIMA Society members and other interested participants, the knowledge and experience gained by the faculty at IIMA in recent years through their research.

“This Conference is also to signal the transition, that IIMA is making, towards increasing our visibility in high-quality research output, without compromising on our traditional strengths of high-quality classroom delivery and policy & practice impact on our chosen domains,” said Prof. Raghuram, Dean, Faculty.

Some of the other interesting topics of discussion would include a discussion on a coherent HR strategy for health organizations and how psychological capital plays a major part in developing commitment towards an organization; a discussion on how to reduce India’s carbon footprints by incentivising energy-efficient appliances; a discussion on how different markets would require organizations to have different approaches and strategies in marketing their products; a discussion on optimising warehouse logistics, among others.

Apart from presenting some of the current research, the Conference will also showcase the Institute’s efforts in incubating entrepreneurs and popularizing the case method.

“We have incubated over 100 entrepreneurs over the past few years. We have, in our ever increasing repository, almost 3,800 cases – perhaps the largest repository of cases for any institute in India. These are strengths that we wanted to showcase to the IIMA Society,” said Prof. Ashish Nanda, Director, IIMA.

“In fact, we now have a case centre to take our expertise of case writing to the next level, in terms of quality and to help our faculty write better cases. We also have plans to market our cases and popularize case-based teaching,” he added.

The stakeholders say that the Conference is aimed at providing valuable insights to the participating members into topical managerial challenges faced by the organizations and their leaders striving for excellence in this competitive environment. This year’s conference has been dedicated to the memory of Shri. Shrenik Lalbhai .
