CM unveils World’s tallest Hybrid wind turbine tower in Kutch

Bhuj, 6 November, 2014

Gujarat Chief Minister Mrs. Anandiben Patel today firmly expressed a desire to promote environment friendly energy generation through wind and solar technologies.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the Suzlon Group, the world’s fifth largest wind turbine manufacturer, making yet another milestone by expanding the capacity of Asia’s largest wind farm at Kutch, Gujarat to 1000 MW.

“The challenge of global warming has given an opportunity, whereby the world is now looking at clean and renewable sources of energy to combat climate change, Mrs. Patel said.

Welcoming the private energy generation projects in Gujarat, the Chief Minister said, her government is not eyeing the developmental vision for today’s Gujarat, but, of tomorrow too! The 20th century was belonging to the Information Technology (IT), but, the 21st century will be surely of Environment Technology (ET).

Gujarat’s present wind power generation capacity is 10,000 MW, which was merely 51 MW in year-2002. In past the farmers were getting insufficient power supply, however, today Gujarat is a power surplus state and the farmers are getting sufficient electricity, Mrs. Patel added.

Nearly one-and-half decade ago just like other states of the country, Gujarat too was highly power-shortage state and its power plants were largely based on coal and gas. But, the coal supply was of poor quality, irregular, and transportation cost was also very high. Even the gas found in Gujarat, was under the control of the Union Government. Thus, the allocation to gas to Gujarat was also meeting with a callous approach. In these adverse circumstances, the Gujarat concentrated on strategic development of renewable energy resources and now it has become an energy surplus state.Gujarat is on the second spot, after Tamil Nadu, in generating power through wind energy. While, India is on fifth spot, after China, USA, Germany and Spain, on the world map.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Tulsi Tanti, CMD, Suzlon Energy, said, “The new Hybrid Tower would generate additional 12-15 per cent power, as a result the Suzlon would become a Game Changer and would achieved new mile-stones soon. The Suzlon is determined to provide quality solution energy and quality energy to its customers.”

Others who graced the occasion included Kutch district in-charge and Minister of State for Health Mr. Shankar Chaudhary, Minister of State Mr. Tarachand Chheda, GEDA Chairman Mr. Ishwar Bhavsar, senior government and Suzlon officials and others.
